I'm not sure that you can. There's nothing much left of Mercur so you may not even know you're there. I'm not sure if there's 4-wheel access from the Butterfield side.

I've been to Ophir and then up the canyon from there. The Mercur area is off limits to the public but supposedly ... if you go up the canyon from Ophir towards Manning ... may give you an overview of the area.
