If you’re hunting for a smaller, wallet-friendly mountain with an easygoing scene, Cherry Peak Ski Resort checks the boxes. It’s Utah’s newest lift-served ski area.
Located just outside of Richmond, north of Logan, it opened for skiing in 2015-2016. Cherry Peak was built with locals and first-timers in mind, without forgetting strong intermediates who want laps after work.
Expect night skiing, a lively snow tubing hill, three chairlifts plus a magic carpet, and an approachable day lodge that keeps everything simple.
The resort promotes “400+ skiable acres,” while third-party sources list 200+ acres. Either way, the feel is intimate. Short walks, quick reloads, and a 1,265-foot vertical drop that’s legit for a neighborhood hill.
Average snowfall runs 320 inches or more with north-facing shots that hold cold chalk after storms. Think “local favorite” more than mega-destination, and you’ve got it.

Cherry Peak Resort is up the canyon from Richmond, just 15–20 minutes from Logan, Utah, near the Idaho border. It is prime northern Utah convenience.
From Salt Lake City, plan roughly 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes, depending on the weather. The last few miles are on a paved canyon road. Follow signs from Richmond east to the resort.

Cherry Peak positions itself as “Utah’s most affordable” with straightforward pricing online and at the window. Watch the resort’s Hours & Rates and “Shop Passes” pages for deals, and snag lift tickets ahead of weekends and holidays.
For lessons, you’ll find group lessons and private lessons (including night formats) plus discounted “Super Pack” bundles that are perfect for first-season learners.
Cherry Peak leans into approachable instruction. The school offers first-timer packages, group lessons for all ages, and private lessons for focused attention.
Parents: the beginner area is right by the base lodge, so it’s easy to watch progress, take photos, or warm up inside with a hot drink between laps.

The day lodge keeps it simple with grill favorites and warm drinks - precisely what you want between laps. For a fuller dining scene, drop down to Logan, Utah, for a college-town lineup near Utah State University.
If you’re sampling multiple ski resorts, Beaver Mountain Ski Area is just up Logan Canyon. It offers bigger acreage but with the same local spirit.
Local secret - Night skiing here is a blast: uncrowded laps, city-light views, and lesson options after work. The dedicated tubing hill runs in set time blocks with rental tubes included (no personal sleds).
This makes for a low-stress win for mixed groups and non-skiers. Check current hours before you go.
There’s no big slopeside hotel. Most visitors stay in Logan … with brand hotels, eateries, coffee … or around Bear Lake/Garden City for winter-quiet cabins and condos. That keeps costs down and options flexible.
If you’re building a weeklong sampler of Utah’s best ski resorts, consider a Cherry Peak warm-up day, then add Beaver Mountain, Powder Mountain, or Snowbasin for variety.

Plans kicked off in the late 2000s. Lifts began spinning for the 2015–2016 ski season, making Cherry Peak the newest member of Utah’s modern lift-served lineup.
Since then, the resort has added lifts, expanded night operations, and leaned into year-round events at the Grand Lodge.
