Forbes Magazine’s list of Best Cities for Jobs for 2012 came out recently. Actually, it’s a list of the Best Big Cities for Jobs. And Salt Lake City is third on the list.
The magazine ranked 65 metropolitan areas all having more than 450,000 jobs. The top 5 are:
1. Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, TX
2. Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, TX
3. Salt Lake City
4. Fort Worth-Arlington, TX
5. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA
Forbes talks about Salt Lake City being the Crossroads of the West. Even though it’s the home of the Mormon Church, less than half the city’s population is a member of the faith. The major industries for the area are tourism, health care, and transportation.
The median household income for Salt Lake City is $56,560. And the median home price is $206,500. The unemployment rate … even though the area was hit hard by the recession … is 6.9%.
